Hiro & Baymax VS Hiccup & Toothless ( Big Hero 6 VS How to Train Your Dragon )
“A friend is one soul dwelling in two bodies” -Aristotle
Both are two people who were the unlikeliest duos that made a great team albeit with some differences. Hiccup and Hiro are simple kids who are mechanical geniuses and leaders of their team wanted to make name for themselves until a chance encounter changed them (Hiccup befriended Toothless after shooting him and Hiro met Baymax after traumatized by Tadashi's death) while Baymax and Toothless are buddies of the kids that can fly and can enter states that increase their abilities (Toothless can enter Alpha Mode and Baymax can activate his fighting mode if Hiro uses the fighting chip as well as Overdrive mode).
Two legendary heroes ride into battle, but they are never alone!
Hiro & Baymax VS Hiccup & Toothless
When I started the year, I never thought I would ever cover these two series in a long time. I thought I would be covering an Archie Sonic matchup or a Dragon Ball Matchup, but here we are with two new series. I really enjoyed How to Train Your Dragon, and Big Hero 6 is really nostalgic for me, so I’m excited to see how this goes down.
This blog was specifically chosen by my friends and specially dedicated to a certain friend. To all those reading, I hope you enjoy it. Let’s take flight!
Fanart:
Ground Rules:
Same as always. No outside help is given. No outside non-standard gear. They will be in character. They will be given their high end feats in line with what makes sense for their character. They will be given only canon material.
Scaling:
Hiro Hamada is a genius prodigy, young student in San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, and the leader of the Big Hero 6. Originally having low aspirations of illegal bot-fighting, he was inspired by his brother, Tadashi, to pursue something greater. Unfortunately, following Tadashi's untimely demise, Hiro was left in a depressive state, with nothing except for one last gift from his brother. A personal healthcare assistant robot, Baymax. And even through death, Baymax cares.
Hiro is one of the smartest characters in the entire show, and is the chief strategist of his team. Baymax is the muscle, and is the strongest character in the series.
Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III ( Isn't that a name? ) was born in the age of the vikings, and is the son of one of the strongest. An interventor at heart, he always wanted to live up to his father's warrior legacy. He got his chance when he downed a Nightfury, one of the rarest and most dangerous dragons around. Now all he had to do was to kill it…but he couldn't muster the heart. He decided to help it, not knowing that the dragon he saved would turn out to be the most influential member in his life.
Hiccup is average in combat skill, his foretay is his intellect. A researcher at heart, he excels in discovering new things and forming plans , with his knowledge being equal with the likes of experienced dragon hunters. Toothless is a Nightfury , infamous for being rare, intelligent, mysterious and powerful. Being referred to as “The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself”.
There is only one piece of advice in the guidebooks, “Never engage this dragon. Your only chance: Hide and pray it does not find you.” Toothless is canonically an alpha. Take that as you will.
Power :
There are two very clear power levels in this fight. There is Hiro & Hiccup, who are relatively more human, and there is Baymax and Toothless who are the heavy hitters.
Let's start with Hiro & Hiccup.
Both are merely humans, but it doesn't mean they are weak. Whilst physically inferior, Hiccup should be comparable to his father, Stoick the Vast, who overpowered the pull of Skullcrusher.
This beast can charge with enough force to knock over massive rocks. This would range to about 45.5 Tons of TnT in terms of energy.
However, Hiro directly took this explosion caused by Overdrive Baymax, which far exceeds Hiccup's best feats of power.
( About 81.6 times stronger )
While Baymax can easily reach the Kiloton ranges, he struggles to reach the Megaton ranges. The greatest feat in the series would be from Baron Von Streamer who built a machine that would destroy the city of….San Fransokyo.
( Okay so according to the lore, a person accidentally destroyed a part of San Francisco and messed up so badly that America and Japan literally joined together. That's pretty funny actually. )
The actual city is built off San Francisco, so it should be of a comparable size. Baron Von Streamer was going to destroy it using a blast of water. Assuming that this would function in the same way as an explosion, the energy needed for that would be about 150 Megatons of TnT, enough to destroy a Mountain.
Toothless can surprisingly surpass this, such as being comparable to massive earthquakes.
These terrify humans and dragons alike, which should make it range anywhere from Magnitude 7 to Magnitude 10 on the Richter Scale.
The Richter scale was made as a scale to measure the strength of earthquakes. Earthquakes as strong as these require energies anywhere from 477 Kilotons of TnT to a staggering 15 Gigatons of TnT.
Being in the Gigaton-tier of power isn't a one-off thing as Toothless is comparable to the Green Death, who was able to destroy entire islands with their magma, reaching energies of several gigatons.
That's over 4,000 times more power than Baron Von Streamer's ….San Fransokyo-destroying technology. I cannot get over how dumb that sounds.
Speed :
Speed is thankfully simpler, since Hiro & Hiccup are roughly as quick as their companions. The Big Hero 6 are consistently about to react to electricity attacks from High Voltage.
Meanwhile, Hiccup & Toothless are consistently able to react to electricity from lightning.
Not all electricity travels at the same speed though. The leader of lightning usually travels about 440,000 meters per second or about Mach 1,300 - which is 1300 times the speed of sound. However high voltage electricity can reach speeds of about 270,000,000 meters per second.
That would be over 600 times faster.
Abilities & Counters :
This is H&B’s category to shine. Of course H&T have equipment and abilities, but they're rather limited. Hiccup has his own Dragon Scale Armour capable of wings.
Toothless has his Screaming Death-Scale Armour and his tailfin which allows him to fly on his own or let Hiccup ride him. Although most of the time Toothless just doesn't use his armor, or even need his armor.
From there , Hiccup has a sword called Inferno which can create flames and explosions. Alongside that some of his inventions like Shields and a multi-firing crossbow.
Their primary forms of attack are Toothless's plasma blasts and Electricity.
A lot of this gear is questionable against Hiro & Baymax to say the least. All of Hiccup's gear is quite frankly useless, because he doesn't have enough attack potency to do reasonable damage against anyone. Doing damage isn't the role Hiccup is cut out for here, Hiro could just knock him out in a few punches.
Even with their basic gear, their suits are made of titanium and Baymax has multiple modes that can be changed according to which chip he has inserted. Relevant to this fight, he has a fighting chip.
He also has Overdrive Mode, which exchanges battery life for a quick increase in power.
They have numerous machines, some of the most useful can perform powerful Sonic Attacks.
And one of his best gear, the Mircobots. Microbots allowed Yokai to beat all of Big Hero 6 and tear apart buildings at the same time whilst not really focusing. These are small, powerful and versatile.
Although not all their gear is useful. Mini Magnets are useless as H&T don't have anything magnetic other than maybe a sword and shield.
And also just some stupid stuff for fun. Like a snow machine, or a Dance Mode for Baymax.
( You don’t question this and I won't question this.)
Loud screams can also affect dragon's flight, which is something in Baymax's arsenal.
On the inverse, Baymax can malfunction from electricity, something Toothless has.
Tertiary factors :
Hiro is smarter, naturally. Big Hero 6 is set in 2150, with things like a purse which contains every element in the periodic table being a rather normal occurrence for them. Compare that to crossbows and telescopes and Hiccup doesn't compare.
That being said, Hiccup is the better strategist. Hiccup is 30 years old, and has had 15 years of it with Toothless. Hiro is 15 years old, and has had 2 years of it with Baymax. Whilst all of them are equipped with years of experience and martial arts, it's easy to see who is the more seasoned fighter. He's a better leader, as Hiro is prone to immaturity and often succumbs to Tunnel Vision.
Finally, Hiccup has better teamwork with Toothless than Hiro has with Baymax. Toothless is a sentient creature afterall, with far more many years of experience.
While Baymax has some sort of emotional intelligence, it can be overridden by his programming, like how Hiro overrides his healthcare chip with his fighting chip.
Toothless is an alive creature with his own choices. The relationship is stronger.
Final Verdict :
Hiro & Baymax:
+Faster
+More Abilities
+More Counters
Hiccup & Toothless:
+More Powerful
+Better teamwork
+More experience
+More skill
+Has more movies at least lol.
Based on a raw comparison of statistics, Hiccup & Toothless are certainly in a good place. While Hiro & Baymax has a speed advantage of several hundred times, Hiccup & Toothless still have the power and durability advantage of several thousand times.
Although, Hiro & Baymax aren't in a bad place yet. Their speed advantage allows them to capitalize on their intelligence and crazy gear, and H&B can find ways around the strength gap, with weapons such as holograms or sonic based weapons being able to wear Toothless down overtime.
They can possibly even quickly remove Hiccup from the fight, as Hiccup is by far the weakest link in this fight, even against Hiro alone.
Yet again, H&T are still more skilled, more mobile in the air, and far more powerful with even Toothless alone. Besides, Baymax has a battery, and needs to be charged eventually – stalling only goes so far.
So with both sides having their own advantages, which duo comes out on top?
It all circles back to teamwork. Hiro is still young, and Baymax is naive – and many issues (especially in the show) are caused by Hiro's impulsiveness. To be fair, he's fifteen. Hiccup is older and wiser, and he has greater chemistry with Toothless than Hiro has with Baymax. Combine that with their skills and experience, I think they've got it.
Winner: Hiccup & Toothless
This was really fun to make. Big Hero 6 in spite of its flaws was a really enjoyable experience, and How to Train Your Dragon now certainly has my interest.
Thank you for reading.
