Mob VS Deku ( Mob Psycho 100 VS Boku No Hero Academia )

" If everyone is not special, maybe you can be what you want to be. " – MOB CHOIR

Shy emotional introverted teenagers from popular mangas who are some of the most powerful superpowered people on their planet (Shigeo's Esper Abilities and Izuku's “One For All” quirk ) mentored by the world’s most powerful heroes (Reigen "The world's best psychic" and All Might "World's Number 1 Hero"). In spite of the fantastical world they live in, things aren't always as smooth as they seem though, their mentors turn out to be blonde-haired men, who in reality are more unassuming and fraudulent than they admit ( Reigen being a non-psychic and Allmight born as quirkless ), in spite of this they still have good hearts.

As they progress through their stories, they face both physical and social battles to find and fit into their place in the world. All the while, they learn how to control their percentage based powers ( Mob’s emotional percentage increases as he feels more emotion & Deku’s power output increases as he uses more One for All ) enhanced by emotion ( Mob’s…everything & Blackwhips ).

Both have many contrasts, with Mob being powered in a world of normal people, and Deku being normal in a world of powered individuals. Mob learns how to better express himself, whilst Deku learns how to be a more independent and stronger individual and team player.

Through their journeys, they encounter egotistical villains who want to rule the world ( Toichiro Suzuki & All for One ), dark reflections of what they could be ( Mogami & Shigaraki ), and work with short blonde-hair boys with superiority complexes ( Hanazawa Teruki & Katsuki Bakugo ), among many others. They later also gain a powerup they cannot control ( ???% and Black Whips ).

In the end, their biggest battle was to find themselves. Whilst both were dismissed as insignificant — even being given insulting nicknames as a misreading of their kanji ( “Shigeo Kageyama” was misread as “Mob” meaning boring, “Izuku Midoriya” was misread as “useless” ) — both surpass their doubts and became who they really wanted to be ( Shigeo learnt to freely express himself and Deku became the world’s number one hero ).

In the end, their determination, perseverance and empathy truly shine as a light of inspiration in any world. You may not be special, but you’re the protagonist of your own life.

Shigeo kageyama VS Izuku Midoriya;

Mob VS Deku

This is one I'm extremely excited for. Mob Psycho 100 is a show I've been wanting to cover for years now, and Mob is one of my favorite fictional characters. Deku definitely got the short end of the stick against Superboy – with some lackluster scaling – and I want to use him for a rerun. 2 of the most kindhearted individuals, who wins?

It's also the 10th anniversary of Technoblade's channel, so go rewatch some of his stuff.

Fanart:

Ground Rules:

Standard as always. No outside help. No outside non-standard gear. They will be in character and will be given their high end feats in line with what makes sense for their character.

For their material, Both Deku and Mob will be given feats from their prime source material, the manga. The Mob Psycho 100 Anime is stated to be reliable from the author ONE, and so it is up for use. The MHA Movies “Two Heroes” & “Heroes Rising” will also be applicable for similar reasons.

Other non-official/non-canon material such as games will not be included. Spoilers for both series, as always.

Mob:

Mob was born as the one of – if not – the most powerful psychics on the planet; and he is extremely talented in it in spite of his lack of experience. After an incident with his brother, he grew in fear of what his abilities could do. However, with support from his loved ones, he learns to accept all sides of himself, one step at a time.

He is above a vast majority of his peers, with only a few heralds such as God Dimple and Mogami rivaling his 100% emotion states. He holds ???%, which is above anyone else in the series.

Deku;

Deku was given the quirk "One for All", giving him access to massive amounts of energy that has been compiled over 7 generations from former Number One Hero , All Might. With it, he soon grows to become one of the world's greatest heroes, and by the end he is destined to be the top hero in the world, bringing inspiration to all.

He is above the vast majority of his peers, only on par with other heralds such as Shigaraki, All Might and a few others. In the end, Deku becomes the Number 1 Hero, and should likely scale above anyone else in the series.

Power & Durability :

Starting with Mob, his demonstrations of destruction would probably be his best point of scaling, given the scale of his esper abilities. Feats such as Dimple growing out the Divine Tree can reach enough destructive energy to wipe out Islands.

Easily by far the most destructive would be all of his showings in Mogami's world. In 100% Courage, he manages to fragment large chunks of rock at high speed, with enough energy to destroy continents.

(7.47 * 10¹⁸ Tons of TnT)

Similarly, Most of Deku's feats are around the island destruction ranges as well, being comparable to characters who blow apart mountains.

He is a bit harder to scale, as he constantly gets new upgrades and buffs that increase his total power output. His greatest feat would be forming a massive hole in this cloud with Bakugo using 100% One for All.

( 5.72 × 10¹² Tons of TnT)

This is supported by Stars & Stripes, who formed this massive crater in the ocean, requiring enough energy to destroy a country.

(4.33 × 10¹² Tons of TnT )

However, ???% is far above anything Deku or even Mob has shown himself, being able to easily destroy Mogami's worlds.

(4.25 × 10²⁶ Tons of TnT )

Comparatively, Mob is around a million times more powerful than Deku – and a lot stronger in ???% – but Izuku still has ways to catch up. Let's move on to speed.

Speed:

Speed is oddly slightly harder to scale than their power; Both have many points of scaling, with largely differing results depending on what you buy.  Mob has dodged lightning, while Deku on multiple occasions has dodged light. Light is faster than lightning, simple enough right? Not quite.

Mob reacted to light at such a small distance that he needed to move at least 4 times the speed of light. This isn’t ungrounded in canon, as both Sho & Teruki have manipulated light and moved at light speed.

This by far isn’t the fastest speed feat we have seen from Mob, although it is a bit more contentious Mob managed to contact Aliens from an unknown planet, the speed of this reaching anywhere from 200 times light speed to almost 20,000,000c — Although it is worth noting that this feat is easily dozens of times faster than anything else Mob has ever shown and could be considered an outlier.

Is “Light” actually light speed in MHA?

( This man causes so many issues, you don't even know )

So….light is weird, and is treated weirdly in fiction; Despite me having not discussed this before, it is an oddly common discussion. Light in all truth is electrically charged massless photons traveling at the speed of light. Light has numerous properties that should be followed. They travel in straight lines, they reflect off surfaces, and — being massless — they consequently will exert no force. ( F = ma )

The last part is the biggest problem. Most of the “light” attacks are shown having an impact force, or disregarding actual properties of light. Aoyama Juga’s Naval Laser is the biggest culprit of this, and downgrades what would be FTL reaction reactions into mere sub-relativistic ones. It has shown exerting a force, and can propel Aoyama through the air. It has shown to bend, take shape, and reflect off surfaces that light would be reflected off.

Unlike something such as Ironman’s lasers, they are never stated to be light speed, only that they’re made of light, so light speed movement for those are a bit weird. They are more comparable to Plasma Plumes, which only travel at 100,000 m/s , which is over 3,000 times slower than light.

The only feat that uses 100% light speed attacks is Star and Stripes reacting to this laser, which given the distance required her to move at 2% light speed. Proven consistent when she later dodges radio waves – which are light speed. Impressive, yet over 200 times slower than Mob’s lightning reactions.

However, if these beams are actually light speed, then Deku’s speed increases exponentially. Mario Togata managed to react to Yuga’s light speed naval laser, needing to react around 20 times the speed of light. That is about 5 times faster than Mob’s lightning reactions.

Light speed or not light speed? Tough to say, both perspectives are equally valid. In the end, it’s up to interpretation. Mob will have the speed advantage if MHA faster than light ( FTL ) beams are not accepted. Deku would be faster if FTL beams are accepted, and Mob regardless would have the advantage if the Alien-beams are accepted.

Speed is certainly a tossup.

Abilities and Counters:

This category is a really important one, as these two have an arsenal of abilities that bounce off each other in a manner I haven’t really covered that often with anyone else.

Deku:

Izuku for starters has All for One, which is his main quirk that he uses, giving him immense strength. By using different percentages of All for One, he can regulate his strength output. Through All for One, he has access to many other quirks from previous owners of legendary quirk, which make him a quick and powerful opponent.

Smokescreen is a rather basic one, allowing him to cloak himself in smoke. Danger Sense allows him to sense incoming danger , similar to that of the Spider-Sense. While not the most flashy, these are excellent defensive quirks, especially Danger Sense.

Fa-Jin allows him to store up kinetic energy from his own movement, and Gear Shift allows him to change the acceleration of anything he touches through space, including other people. These give him great power and agility, and are vital aspects in his kit, especially Fa-Jin which allow him to use 120% the power of One for All. If used right, it's a game changer.

Blackwhip allows him to form black energy tendrils that shoot out from anywhere in his body – similar to Spiderman's webbing or more accurately, Venom's symbiote. Being strong and having great range, this quirk excels in incapacitating opponents and giving him great agility in the air. While he cannot fly, Blackwhip, combined with Gear Shift and the last quirk, Float, give him a pseudo-flight of sorts.

Deku also has a plethora of forms stemming from combinations of his abilities. Full Cowling, Faux, Gear Shift Overdrive , etcetera – allow him to increase his powers to far greater extents.

Mob:

Mob Psycho 100 works under a universal power system, where everyone is connected by the same kind of powers. Think "Ki" for Dragon Ball's fighters or "Speed Force" for DC Speedsters; With Mob at the top of the food chain. He has all the standard Esper Abilities; Telekinesis; Barrier & Flight, along with a few others such as Spiritual Awareness & Exorcism.

With his Telekinesis, he can paralyze someone by twisting their bodies or simply holding them still and can regenerate his body. He is one of the only espers that can absorb energy.

Mob is also good at coping with other espers abilities, and has done so before causally.

For instance, he manages to astral project his mind after only seeing a weird pervert do it once; He can manipulate plants with Chlorokinesis a few seconds after witnessing it once.  Hanezawa Teruki also does this a lot too, copying Air Whips and Pyrokinesis after having only seen it once.

Other espers have abilities such as forming ice & electricity, enhancing simple objects into deadly weapons, and black orbs which obliterates anything they touch.

Finally, his transformations….kind of. The power of Mob's abilities stem from his emotions. Be it sadness, anger, trust, or any others, they all share the same fundamental core. With enough emotion, Mob bursts out with incredible power.

When Mob's subconscious takes over, ???% comes out. This form – whilst still having Mob's restraint – is the most unhinged Mob can be. At its core, it follows only one purpose: To follow Mob's most recent goal. From freeing a person from the control of an evil spirit, to simply proposing to his crush.

While technically being able to unleash these powers anytime, Mob is most willing to use them in these forms, and is consequently far more powerful.

Counters:

These two pair off in a fascinating way. While Mob has more abilities, he doesn’t use a lot of them – or is just unwilling to use them. I don't see Mob doing something like Black Orbs or Paralysis on Deku, that's just out of character for him.

A lot of Mob’s kit just isn't powerful enough to have too big an impact. Ice, Fire, Electricity; They're all things Deku has dealt with before. See Todoroki or Denki.

At the same time, Mob can also counter a lot of Deku's kit. He can sense Espers from over 10 kilometers away, Smokescreen isn't going to do much.

Gearshift is useless when Mob just has more influence over objects. Not only is his Telekinesis more powerful, but it is also more precise, operating down to the cellular level.

Despite his blackwhips, gearshift and float, Deku still isn't flying. There isn't much really stopping Mob from immobilizing him from a distance. In ???%, he unconsciously flung Teruki and half of Black Vinegar Middle School into the air.

If Mob really wants to, he can just grab Deku and hold him in the air with his Telekinesis, removing a lot of Deku's air movement.

Can Mob absorb One for All?

This is an interesting discussion. One for All in its nature is a quirk that is meant to be passed off to other users. "One" Quirk for "All" of us. It is arguable that with Mob’s Energy Absorption that he can simply take One for All, given that he has taken energy even when it's against his opponent's consent.

But not quite. One for All is protected by all the previous wills of One for All. It can only be passed on when Deku is willing to pass it off.

Mob could genuinely have enough will to override the consciousness in One for All. He has endured over 6 months of psychological torture from Mogami, in a world with no loved ones and the only redeemable part about the world is that he is still alive.

Facing injustices ranging from cruel to just plain unhinged.

After a talk with Dimple, he manages to beat Mogami and his countless evil spirits, and then in the end, forgives his bully without hesitation on his simple belief that….

That might just be enough will to overpower One for All. There isn't much protecting the energy One for All has stockpiled up either, so Mob could siphon that. Regardless, he should still be able to draw power from Fa-Jin's kinetic energy, as it is unprotected by One for All.

Tertiary Factors:

Deku actually takes a majority of the other tertiary factors. In terms of useful gear, Deku has the advantage in the simple fact that he actually has gear. The most useful gear Mob has ever had was literally Broccoli seeds that he kept in his pocket which he subconsciously transferred energy into.

He does not have a special costume, he literally uses his school uniform, or a white shirt ( Leading to his cult name – White T Poison ….long story ).

Deku has multiple pieces of at least professional level gear. While Mob has a simple school uniform,  Izuku has Costume Zeta. Costume Zeta is a composite of many different costumes he has had before, as well as additional attachments. Iron soles to maximize strength while minimizing damage received, Air Force Gloves to help fair out air, and Mid-Gauntlets which reinforce his body against One for All.

While Mob has had his powers for longer, Deku has had far more experience and training. He is more intelligent in battle strategy, and far more skilled. In terms of skill, experience and gear, Izuku has the advantage in spades.

Final Verdict:

Mob:

+Power & Durability

+A lot faster given high ends.

+Versatility

+Better Haxes

+Counters

+Battlefield Control

-Less willing to fight

+MP100 is a phenomenal series, please check it.

Deku:

+More skilled

+Potentially faster

+More intelligent

+More valuable experience

+Gear

=Could potentially grow stronger since the series is still ongoing

+BNHA is still a great series, check it

Izuku is facing an uphill battle against Shigeo. His comparatively linear powerset will struggle against Mob’s sheer catalog of abilities, especially with Mob’s unbreakable durability.

Deku does have advantages of his own, and they are big advantages. He is far more experienced and skilled than Mob, and is consistent in being able to overcome gaps in power with his genius and timing alone. He fights against powered individuals on a daily basis, and his analytical patient fighting style is going to thrive against Mob’s pacifistic and naive nature. Midoriya is going to have a large control of the battlefield for a large majority of the fight, forming new strategies left and right — while Mob is going to be consistently on the defensive ( that’s just how he battles ).

With his variety of power boosting abilities, he might be able to get around all of Mob’s defenses, especially with the FTL speed edge.

Although, he has never encountered anyone as versatile as Kageyama. His defensive combat style with his impenetrable force fields means that Midoriya doesn’t really have an easy way of bypassing his defenses.

Deku lacks ways to take down Mob. His straight-forward physical powerset means that he is going to struggle to find a way around even Shigeo’s basic defenses outside of physical attacks. Meanwhile, Mob has a plethora of long-ranged abilities allowing him to control the pace of the fight as well as providing many ways to incapacitate Deku even without overpowering him.

Finally, there isn’t a solid way for Deku to get past the raw power of ???% – with little concern over collateral damage. I'm not even sure that he can take down 100% Mob. Shigeo is still stronger, more versatile and if it comes down to it he would win a physical confrontation more often than not.

Deku is an ingenious fighter, but Mob’s power, speed and wide array of abilities earn him the win more often than not.

Winner: Shigeo Kageyama

Out of all the blogs I've done this year, this was probably one of the most fun to make. The amount of content both series had that I haven't covered before really makes for an interesting fight.

These two series are really good and I'm glad I was able to cover them. Give them a watch next time you’re at it.

Speaking of next time….

Next time:

" Fly Together " – Hiccup & Toothless VS Hiro & Baymax ( How to Train Your Dragon VS Big Hero 6 )

See you all soon.
