Homelander VS Iron Patriot ( The Boys VS Marvel Comics )
“ It's the great deception in modern culture: Bad things call for noble names to cloak their evil outcomes. ” -Greg Gutfeld
Patriotic red, blue and white humans symbolizing the American dream who lead their world’s greatest superhero team! (The Seven & The Dark Avengers)…..Or that’s what they want you to think. Enhanced by science and technology ( Compound V & Goblin Formula/Iron Patriot Suit), they secretly lead their big corrupted companies ( Oscorp & Vought ) as they further their objective of garnering fame and fortune, while trying to influence their sons ( Ryan & Harry ) to join them on their mission of world influence.
The Homelander VS The Iron Patriot
I’ve been pretty excited to feature our first character from The Boys. We have not featured a truly new series since Tank Girl back in April (if that even counts), so I’m pretty excited for this one. I have a lot I want to cover and The boys (The show, not the comic) is really good so that is pretty exciting.
Warning:
The Boys is considered an 18+ series, with multiple themes which may be sensitive. Displays of Acts of Violence, Alcohol, Drugs, Smoking, Profanity, Gore, S*x, Nud*ty, R*pe, etcetera are all featured in The Boys. While I can keep it to a minimum, I cannot guarantee I can censor all of that - especially for the gore.
If you are uncomfortable at any time of reading this blog, feel free to stop reading.
Ground Rules:
No outside help will be given, neither will there be any outside non-standard gear. They will be in character and will be given their high end feats in line with what makes sense for their character.
For Norman Osborn, everything he has done as the Green Goblin, Iron Patriot, or any other applicable alias will be considered and evaluated for this fight.
For John Gillman, both The Boys comics and The Boys TV Show will be considered and evaluated for this fight. The Boys comics and The Boys TV Show do share different continuities, and so I will be using The Boys TV Show as the main source of information with the Boys comics being a secondary supporter. (Mainly because The Boys do not have many feats in the comics and the show is just better in all regards.) Tie-in shows such as The Boys: Diabolical and other canon shows will be considered.
Scaling:
Iron Patriot:
The Iron Patriot is based off the Mark 25 Ironman suit, thus he should be above any armor before that. Iron patriot is in the middle ground in terms of power, being able to hold back Sentry and fight Ms Marvel on a good day. He should be reasonably equal to or above the street tiers of Marvel. That makes sense, Norman Osborn was the Green Goblin long before he was the Iron Patriot, constantly in battle against Spider-man.
Homelander:
Homelander’s scaling is easy. He is just stronger than anyone. In all of the series, he has been the top dog constantly throughout and stronger than anyone surrounding him. There has only been one instance where Homelander directly been outshined and that was from a clone of himself ( long story ), which got retconned for the TV series. While he is the top dog, he isn’t infallible. Other top tiers such as Queen Maeve and Billy Butcher could give Homelander a run for his money, and the gap between Soldier Boy and Homelander is largely inconsequential. However, he still should be able to upscale from them.
Power:
Homelander:
I’ve been really excited to tackle Homelander; Since he has many…questionable statements that make it difficult to pinpoint what is real and what is not. Let us start with what is concrete first.
Homelander has a plethora of scaling that can put him within the building ranges of attack potency. Billy Butcher used about 30 pounds of C4 in this explosion or about 0.02 Tons of TnT.
“ He murdered Vought Vice President , Madeline Stillwell, using upwards of 30 pounds of C4.”
Soldier Boy’s nuclear explosions get to about 1 ton of TnT from this explosion.
Most impressively, Homelander has even been in the center of this chemical plant exploding.
Statements:
Homelander’s best scaling comes from statements. Notably, being able to withstand every man-made weapon on earth, and many argue this extends to Nuclear Weapons as well.
Normally, I would have no issue with using statements to impose an upgrade like this. However, the statements in The Boys are often to be taken with heavy precaution, as many of them are made specifically to make the Superheroes seem more impressive than they actually are.
For instance, Billy Butcher says that heroes can go to the moon and swim in the sun.
Except…. Superheroes cannot leave orbit, they freeze up in the cold. They also melt in furnaces.
Homelander being a nuclear level threat is just not a thing, Nukes can not only keep him in line, but has been stated being able to kill him, which was the intention as stated by the author.
It is not even possible to imply that Homelander can feasibly take a nuclear explosion as radiation specifically fries the compound V from a person’s body, the very thing giving Homelander his powers.
To be fair, Queen Maive was powerful enough to survive it, although now she's entirely depowered and everyone thought she was dead.
Without nuclear weapons, the most powerful thing Homelander can scale to is the US GBU-43/B MOAB ( Literally an abbreviation of “Mother of All Bombs” ), which packs a mere 11 Tons of TnT.
( Side note: I have dealt with a lot of large and small numbers on this blog, but this number struck me as oddly small? I mean to be fair, this still is enough energy to entirely level buildings, but still? Only 11 Tons? )
Besides, nuclear weapons on the average only range from 2.2 Megatons of TnT to as low as 50 Kilotons of TnT.
Iron Patriot:
Green Goblin should naturally scale to his arch nemesis, the Spider-man, who when half-dead, took an explosion from the Phoenix Force at 10.1 Megatons of TnT.
Iron Man's older suits have on 2 occasions have caused destruction comparable to the Grand Canyon. ( One of the weirder units of measurements I have used )
Older suits also have done things like destroy a rock the size of Manhattan at 6.3 Petatons of TnT.
And Tony all the way back to the Mark V was able to create extraterrestrial rings that light ups planets.
Speed :
Pretty simple. Homelander is comparable to other superheroes who reacted to Lightning.
Meanwhile Iron Patriot can react to his own lasers, which move at light speed.
Abilities & Counters :
Homelander has all the standard abilities you would expect from any other Superman copycat.Flight, super speed and super strength, X-ray, Super Hearing, etcetera.
He also can scream really loud. He is also extremely violent, more violent than Norman.
Iron Patriot has all your standard Iron man abilities. Flight, force fields, repulsors, etcetera.
As the Green Goblin, he has his glider and his pumpkin bombs. He is also far more vicious than Homelander as the goblin. Homelander may be ruthless, but Goblin is straight up evil.
Tertiary factors :
There unfortunately is not much to say in this category. Iron Patriot has better gear, experience and skill on the basis that Homelander basically has….no gear, equipment or skill.
Final Verdict :
Iron Patriot:
+Stronger
+Faster
+Stronger & faster even without the Iron Patriot
+Better gear
+More experienced
+More skilled
+More intelligent
+More versatile
+Better abilities
+Better counters
+Slightly more mentally stable….if that means anything
-Constantly getting dunked on by the Goblin.
Homelander:
+More violent and bloodlusted than Norman
-Less violent than the Goblin
+The boys is a great show
-The boys is a horrible comic
John, for as impressive as he is in his own series, pales in comparison to the caliber of powers Norman brings to the table. Marvel and The Boys simply operate on two different scales of power.
In retrospect, it makes sense that Homelander lost. Homelander is a man made in a test tube who grew older but never grew up. He was fed everything that he has now, and he has not worked a day in his life. It’s a wonderful part of his character, and what makes his defeats and struggles so compelling and satisfying.
Norman meanwhile worked for everything he had. He has built his own company, developed his own technology, and got to where he is today because of his intellect and hard work.
After Iron Patriot got the strength and speed advantage, it was all over for Homelander. And if the Goblin comes out? It is all over..
Winner: The Iron Patriot
