Human Torch VS Green Lantern ( Jim Hammond VS Alan Scott )
Golden Age superheroes wielding fire themed superpowers that have a successor that is jovial and humorous, albeit a bit cocky , that star in teams that predate their universe's stars teams (The Justice Society and the Invaders) and got their powers from an entirely different origin of power. Despite being older heros, they are still very powerful and respected in their own right , even surpassing their predecessor on occasion.
Jim Hammond VS Alan Scott
The Human Torch VS The Green Lantern
Happy Valentine's Day, and Friendship Day to anyone not celebrating.
Nothing much to add this month, let's just jump straight in.
Ground Rules :
No outside help. No outside non-standard gear. They will be in character. They will be given their high end feats, but no outliers.
Strength, Power and Durability :
Jim Hammond physically isn't much to write home about. He's stunned Sersi, the inhuman torch and Ironman before, even brawling head to head with Namor.
Where Jim Hammond truly shines is with his pyrokinesis, because man, his fire is something else.
He has very consistently been able to overwhelm Namor with his fire, boiling him alive or forcing him to retreat. A clone of Jim Hammond was even able to completely dehydrate Namor in a single fire blast.
Other characters aren’t immune to this either. He’s stunned and injured Hulk and Ikaris. He's taken out Captain Britain. He even took out the entire mighty avengers by powering up.
He has been shown to, and even directly stated to be, more powerful than Johnny Storm. He even nullified Johnny going nova with a whirlwind.
Johnny Storm can also create Planck temperature, capable of rupturing the multiverse.
Instantly killed a (less modern) Ironman through his suit, took Hyperion to his knees with a single hit, and made the Sentry run away just from powering up.
Sentry, Hyperion, Ironman and Human Torch can all fight against Thor and Hulk tier opponents.
He’s even shattered extra dimensional shields.
Alan Scott meanwhile can keep up with DC Heralds.
He clashes with and retrains Kyle Rainer, taking hits from Sinestro with 2 rings, helping Hawkman beat the crap out of Black Adam, and injures Doomsday.
Multiple times he has clashed with the Shazam Family.
And Krytonians like Superman.
He's been stated to be the most powerful human alive. He even punches Darkseid with all the green in the multiverse.
Safe to say that they’re about the same ballpark of power, with Alan being possibly a little stronger.
Speed :
Both Jim Hammond and Alan Scott should scale to their respective universes’ herald level of speeds.
Ares can move in planck time, similar to how Martian Manhunter can move in planck time.
They too have immeasurable speed scaling, examples like Silver Surfer and Jay Garrick being able to travel through time under their own speed.
They should be around the same level of speed.
Skill , Experience and Intellect , Stamina :
I’m grouping all this together since there really isn’t much to talk about. They are both able to fight against heavy hitters like Ironman and Kyle Rayner. That’s about the full extent of it.
Same for intellect. They’re both voices of reason , and the Human Torch AI and the Starheart both offer valuable information, but they haven’t been used enough to suggest much.
Alan Scott has been serving for about 31 years, Jim Hammond has been serving for about 84 years. Nothing much to say on this.
We know Jim Hammond and Alan Scott have super stamina. How much?
I dunno. I suppose the starheart does need a recharge every 24 hours. That’s all I got.
Versatility, haxes and Gear ; Counters :
Well first of all, they both have pretty good construct manipulation. Things like shields and even clones.
They both also have flame powers, I mean….it's the freaking Human Torch.
They both can go intangible.
Jim Hammond can turn his fire radioactive.
Though Green Lantern can routinely travel to radioactive areas like the sun.
Though unlike Jim Hammond, Alan Scott can hypothesize others.
He can manipulate souls.
He can time travel.
And he can do all the other crazy abilities Green Lantern has. He even has color manipulation.
Final Verdict:
Alan Scott :
=Power
=Speed
=Intellect
=Stamina
+Versatility
+Haxes
+Gear
+Counters
Jim Hammond :
=Power
=Speed
=Intellect
=Stamina
+Experience
This is a pretty close fight in all honesty. The raw firepower (haha) of Jim Hammond and the will of the starheart are pretty evenly matched.
However, Human Torch is limited in the way that he doesn’t have many notable abilities outside of pyrokinesis. Meanwhile Green Lantern….well he’s a green lantern. He practically has everything. He has everything from time travel to color manipulation.
The first Green Lantern has more abilities that can push the fight in his favor, and in a fight where practically everything is equal, that means a lot.
Winner : Green Lantern ( DC Comics )
That's all for this month folks. It's been fun to cover another Marvel VS DC Match up, and I would like to go into more detail if I'm given the chance in the future.
Speaking of the future , next time….
"Change for the future "
Invincible VS Steven Universe!
See you next month, have a happy valentines day.
