Spiderman VS Batman ( Remastered ) ( Marvel Comics VS Detective Comics)

It's the one year anniversary of my first blog!  Well...my first 3 blogs...this is what I get for constantly reposting my blogs. This is technically the second part to the mid-year project , but I'm a little late though. 

I just redid the blog to make sure I got everything I wanted. 

As a celebration to mark this milestone, I'm remastering this fight and seeing how much better I can make it. My research has increased in depth and clarity and my style has adapted and improved. 

Maybe my answer will even change....you'll have to wait and see. 

It is still the best match for both characters, so let's break it down and see what we can do.

2 of the most iconic and popular comic book superheroes in their respective universes ( Detective Comics and Marvel Comics ) and even all of fiction. Both are orphans who were inspired to become heroes over the murder of one of their relatives ( Thomas and Martha Wayne and Uncle Ben ) and used another one of their "family" to cope ( Alfred Pennyworth and Aunt May ) Both have animal themed suits and are geniuses who create their own gadgets and have their own business (Wayne Enterprises and Parker Industries ) Both joined Earth's Mightest Heroes ( The Justice League and The Avengers) and have  incredibly large rogue gallery along with multiple love interests, including a cat burglar  (Catwoman and Black Cat, respectively) , a crazy psychopath arch nemesis ( Joker and Green Goblin) ,a tragic near grumpy scientists who lost their wife and was physically altered by a science experiment gone wrong ( Mr Freeze and Doctor Octopus) , etc.

They both also have contrasting traits, with Bruce being extremely rich and sociable , with Peter being more introverted and poor . Meanwhile Batman is serious , has a dark work uniform and tries to be feared , while Spiderman is open , has a colourful costume and constantly makes jokes to try to lighten the mood. However in the end , Peter has a better coping mechanism, being able to let go and love others while Bruce is still struggling to love again.

The Batman VS The Amazing Spider Man 

Ground rules:

No outside help/ assistance. ( No help from the avengers/Justice League , Spiderverse/Batfamily, etc ). 

Standard gear and versions. ( So no Hellbat or Iron Spider , anything of the sort ) ( 616 Marvel Spider-man and Post crisis/Rebirth Batman )

*New* : Characters are in character. Meaning that Spiderman won't go for the kill or Batman won't use guns and things like that. I've been working with this rule for a while , but I don't think I ever mentioned it , so I'll mention it here. 

Let's get started. 

Strength and Durability:

There are 2 levels of scaling usable for Batman and Spiderman. You can use scaling feats (Such as Spiderman staggering the Hulk) or quantifiable feats with actual numbers. 

Let's start with Peter. 

He knocked out Wolverine and Deadpool in one hit. He has overpowered Captain America, who is Multi-city block+ level in strength. He has fought an entire X-men team , including members like Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Storm. He has fought equally with Kingpin and The Ironfist , who managed to destroy a mountain in a hit.

He has staggered Thor, Hulk and Ironman , all 3 of them are certified universe busters. He has fought on equal footing with both the Thing and the human Torch , the Thing is capable of fighting the Hulk and the Human Torch could do the similar. He has fought terrax ( A herald of galactus and someone who could fight the silver surfer and Thor) and Unstoppable Colossus ( Someone who should scale to Juggernaut ) He has broken out of Quasar's constructs , someone who is on the same level as Thor , and took hits from both Thanos and Juggernaut. He has also one shot a member of the wrecking crew, the wrecking crew being Thor villains.

Batman is no slouch in his own right. Like how Peter has staggered Universe busters like Hulk and Thor, Bruce has done that against Superman and Wonder woman. He has staggered Doomsday and injured Damage, and took hits from Mongul. He has fought evenly with Bane, Solomon Grundy and even Hawkman, whose mace can hit with the force of the entire planet Earth. He has fought against Deathstroke, and blocked attacks from his sword ( Something sharp enough to cut the skin of Superman ). He can trade hits from cyborg, block attacks from Aquaman and Booster Gold and knock out Guy Gardener in one hit ( However Guy was off guard ).

So pretty relative in comparison. However Parker is more consistently higher in terms of scaling. He is just more consistent and done better in fights against Marvel Heralds compared to Wayne against the heralds of DC. 

There are outliers as well that could The Dark Knight above the webhead. 

Outliers is an event or feat that is considered to be completely and irreconcilably inconsistent with a character, entity, group, or series' normal displayed level of power. 

Batman has defeated a Justice League team by himself before, a lineup consisting of heavy hitters like Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman and The Flash. He has also staggered the Spectre, a being that is referred to as “God’s Wrath”. 

Spiderman isn’t 100% outclassed here, he has taken a beat down from Phoenix Force Colossus and Magik , both of them have consistently fought against and taken down Thor and entire teams of avengers by themselves. The avengers also thought Spiderman could take down the Hulk in Spiderman’s job application for joining the Avengers and even knocked out Thanos by himself.

While these are very VERY inconsistent for the typical power level displayed by them, it is still interesting to note.

Whilst rough scaling is very important , quantifiable feats are still important to finding out how powerful a character is. 

So let us look at the best feats these characters can consistently scale to. 

The highest feat I could find that the Unstoppable Batman is a feat where he survived a bomb placed by the Riddler that blow up several learned buildings. Calculating out, Batman can roughly tank 60 tonnes of TNT, solidly in the high City block range. 

Meanwhile Peter’s highest feat is when he tanked a city level blast straight to his chest. Quick Summary :

Doctor Octopus and a co-worker were trying to enhance Ock by having him absorb enough electromagnetic energy to destroy a city. However Ock decides not to go through with it right before Spider-Man shows up, at which point the admirer blasts Spider-Man with the energy instead.

Using the high end of City Block and the low end of City , Spider-man is over 63000 times stronger than Bat-man.

And using more precise measurements, Spider-man is potentially 105000 times more powerful than the batman. 

Even if Batman was 100 times stronger than what I gave him, that’s still a reasonably noticeable power difference.

Peter has the strength gap, but strength is not everything, so let us move on.

Speed and agility : 

Who is the faster out of the 2? In terms of travel speed. Batman roughly runs 40 mph/ 64 kmph , while Spider-man is roughly around 200-250 mph/ 321-402kmph , roughly around 5 times faster in travel speed. 

But speed in a fight isn't about who can run faster, it's about how fast you can react and how precise you are in your movements, and in that both can dodge Lightning and dodge point blank automatic gunfire. 

How fast is Batman? Well he has dodged attacks from both Superman and Wonder woman. He has outmaneuvered Hawkman and VIxen. He has dodged Superman’s heat vision and Martian Manhunter’s martian vision. He has blocked hits from the reverse flash, and scales to Damian Wayne who tagged the Kid Flash. He has dodged light based attacks from Doctor Light and Green Lantern constructs from….Green Lanterns. Most impressively, he had dodged the “undodgeable” omega beams that Superman , Wonder woman and Supergirl couldn’t dodge. 

How fast is Spider-man? He’s straight up caught bullets in his hands causally. He’s dodged hits from Human Torch, Ironman, Captain Marvel, Hulk, Doctor Strange , etcetera. He has dodged hits from Mjölnir, fast enough to travel the marvel universe within seconds. He’s dodged an entire X-men team, including FTL reaction speed characters like Storm, Nightcrawler and Wolverine. He’s caught the light speed Quicksilver, kept up with a being made of pure light energy with relative ease and done similar against a similar being , the Spectrum. And again against the Light Master. He’s danced around the Hulk, he has blitzed Firelord, and caught Silver Surfer, someone who has travelled back in time under his own speed. 

So both are extremely fast. Looking at the speed raw, it is reasonable to assume that Batman can keep up. However Spider-man has a few skills and hax abilities to enhance the speed gap to an unimaginable extent that I will go to when I get there.

So Spider-man is stronger and faster , but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Batman is outclassed. Batman has time and time again fought against people like Bane or Hawkman, people stronger than him, so strength and speed whilst important is not everything. 

And Batman has a few very strong ways to counter. Let us get to that.

Skill & Experience:

Let us go through what Bruce can do. Based on the average information I have gathered, Bruce has roughly been working as Batman for over two decades , with the most specific number being 23 years as Batman. Peter is estimated to be 28 in the 616 Marvel Universe and started working at 15-17, meaning roughly 11-13 years of experience. Bruce is more experienced than the web slinger , but he doesn’t totally outclass Spider-man. 

What Batman excels in is skill, he is easily one of the most skilled fighters in the DC universe. He has mastered 127 different martial arts styles. He has stalemated Lady Sheiva, the “deadliest woman alive”, and stalemated Ra’s Al Ghul on numerous occasions, a man with centuries worth of experience and leads an entire assassin army. Defeated Wildcat in boxing, consistently defeats the robins ( All of them have been able to fight with people like Deathstroke and Ra’s Al Ghul ), and defeated Black Canary several times. He knows pressure point combat enough to take down Solomon Grundy, he knows over 160 ways of how to take down a man non-lethally and defeats an exact copy of himself ( Including all his skills ). 

Extremely skilled, possibly enough to turn the tide of this battle all by itself.

So how skilled is our friendly neighbourhood Spider-man? 

Firstly, he has been consistently able to keep up with Marvel’s street tier, such as the likes Daredevil, Captain America, Wolverine, Shang Chi, Iron fist and Luke Cage, etcetera. He’s defeated Spiderwoman, someone trained from young to be an advanced hydra soldier. He has dismantled the wrecking crew, all people who have fought Thor. He has defeated Captain America, one of the most skilled avengers, war veterans and strategies, even helping to train Black Widow. Speaking of Black Widow, Peter has fought her too. Has used his skill to keep up with stronger opponents like Captain Marvel and Ironman . And matched against the Black panther.

So quite skilled himself. Not to mention Spider-man also has his own unique martial arts style, created by him and Shang Chi when he lost his spider sense. Dubbed “The way of Spider”, it was made to give him a sort of second “Spider-sense”. Not only does this fighting style enhance his reaction speed, it also makes it so that Batman is unprepared to counter his fighting style, removing a major advantage that Bruce typically has.

Bruce is more skilled and more experienced , but similar to how Batman isn't outclassed in strength and speed , Peter can hold his own here too.

Gear , Versatility & Hax Abilities :

Gear is somewhere that Bruce really shines in. His armour first off is bulletproof and can take hits from people like Superman and The Reverse Flash. He has explosives that can surpass his attack potency, he has gas that can affect Wonder woman and sonic blasters that can injure Superman. His grappling hook and cape gives him air movement that can keep up with Hal Jordan’s Green lantern and his gauntlets and batarangs can block Deathstroke’s sword ( Which as stated earlier has dealt injuries to Superman ). 

Peter has some pretty good gear in his own right, his webs not only have variations ( Like impact webs, taser webs, web grenades, etcetera ) but also power, being able to wrap up the Hulk. His suit, whilst not bulletproof, is made to be resistant to electrical charges to protect him from people like Electro and The Shocker. It was even powerful enough to block against Jane Foster’s ( The Mighty Thor ) Lightning. He has web filling in his belt in the case that he runs out and has used his webs to form gauntlets that have injured Rhino, Wings that allow him to glide and even shields that have tanked Electro’s attacks.

Not bad, but it still cannot compete with the raw versatility exposed by the utility belt. 

Without beating around the bush, Gotham’s greatest defender also has the advantage in stealth. Peter is not a shouch in stealth by any stretch of the imagination. He has sneaked up on both Deadpool and Daredevil and has been stated by Daredevil to “not make a sound”. 

Batman has consistently snuck up on Ninjas and even other members of the Bat  family. Has consistently escaped both Superman and Martian Manhunter, both of have super senses ( Super hearing, Mind Reading, X-ray Vision , etcetera). He has even recognised the presence of Martian Manhunter by the sound of his breath. 

Luckily for Peter, Spider-man ( Unlike Bruce ) has powers. And the Spider-sense is Spiderman’s ace in the hole. The Spider-sense is an alert of precognition Peter gets when he senses a threat, sent out by the Master Weaver on a multiverse scale. Meaning that no matter what Bruce throws at Peter, like gas or flash bangs, spider man will still have his Spider Sense. This not only increases his reaction time, but also allows him to minimise damage taken and sense things on even a microscopic level , such as things like Antman and the Wasp.

Counters :

So given their abilities , how can they counter each other’s advantages? 

Batman can handle Spiderman’s webs for at least a while, and his large variety of gear can allow him to keep his distance . He has snuck around Superman before, so he could potentially sneak around Spider-man. Spider-man while having a diverse gear set, most of them involve webs. If Bruce can find a counter to the webs, a large majority of Peter’s long range options are compromised. 

Peter can potentially overpower a large majority of Batman’s gear. He has taken sound blasts meant for the hulk, so Bruce’s sound attacks while deadly isn’t the definitive winning strategy. Same for Bruce’s gas attacks, Spiderman has handled Mysterio’s gas attacks, and since Batman is non-lethal, Peter can manage. Those webs, while not permanent, are still powerful enough to overwhelm Batman if unchecked. 

And that spider sense, combined with the Way of The Spider, makes the Spider almost untouchable. At his best, there’s a chance that Bats can’t even hit him, and it would dismantle his stealth and compromise any chances Batman has to attack.

Both have a solid chance of victory, so can other factors assist in any way? 

Stamina :

This is quite a funny category, because Peter should have the stamina advantage. He can fight for hours at full power and consistently fight teams like the Sinister Six, all members of which having comparable strength to him, for an extended period of time. He should also scale to Captain America who could fight wars for days.

But Batman is actually around that level, simply because he’s too stubborn. He too has fought wars and has lasted 80 hours without sleep. He got drugged by the Joker, beaten and buried alive, and still punched his way out just because he’s the GODDAMN BATMAN. Badass. 

Intellect :

Final category, who is smarter?

Many often have this misconception that Batman is vastly smarter than Spiderman. Whilst I agree with Bruce as of current, has the edge in intellect, it is closer than you think. 

Peter has consistently outsmarted Mr Fantastic and Ironman on several occasions. Both of which have built entire universes worth of data. Peter has reversed particles that Reed had thought were a fundamental force of the universe and taught Ironman some interdimensional equations. 

Batman meanwhile is the World’s greatest detective. He has consistently outsmarted the league by himself , including people like Cyborg , Lex Luthor , Superman , Flash , Martian Manhunter, etcetera , all of which are geniuses. He has tapped into the speed force , decoded Green Lantern's ring and even made plan to take down the entire league. 

Not too bad for a "teenager".

Final Verdict : Who wins?

Spiderman :

=Intellect

=Stamina

+Stronger 

+Faster

+More Durable

+Counters

Batman :

=Stamina

=Intellect

+Skill

+Experience

+Versatility

+Gear

So at their absolute best, they should be comparable, so who wins? 

The key is to look at the potency of the advantages they have.

The world’s greatest Detective is potentially smarter than Spiderman, but not to a major amount that it becomes an enormous advantage. Similarly for versatility and gear, seeing that Spiderman isn’t far behind and has his fair share of advantages in his gear and versatility as well, and that’s not even accounting for the spidey-sense. Even one of his bigger advantages, skill, is also thrown into wet waters when considering the Way of The Spider. 

Spiderman meanwhile has pretty strong advantages. Actually, he has very strong advantages . Batman is strong and fast, and can punch far above his weight class, but we have to circle back to the numbers. Peter is over 50,000 times more powerful than Wayne, and the Dark Knight has no good counter to Spider-sense,  other than trying to overcome it with brute force. Other than Nightwing and a few of the teen titans, Batman has not really faced many people like Spidey. Spider man's arch enemies ,  Doctor octopus and The Green goblins, are surprisingly similar to Batman. 

From a quick view, this does look like the Amazing Spiderman and the Caped crusader are neck to neck and it is a great fight. However the Wallcrawler advantages are just too strong for The Dark Knight to reliably counter without Spidey counting him first.

Bruce is a top tier street tier character.  Peter is just on a different level.

It has been a year since I started this blog. It’s been quite a journey within this year. Some of us have grown. Some of us are still mourning loss, I’m sure I still am. I’m glad I got introduced to this, it allows me to have creative expressions that I never had before.
